I put my SATA2 HD in the SATA0 connection and booted up the PC with a Windows Vista Beta 2 disc, and was able to install Vista with no problem...so it can't be the HD. If not I'd say try re-installing Vista using your Intel Video, and you may get the option to format and/or partition the hard drive that way, so change your BIOS setting to BOOT FROM CD, insert the Vista installation disc and re-install.
